PopupMag couldn't miss the chance to talk to you about the new trend of the global summer: the augmented reality of Pokémon Go. Well yes, for a few days now in the hot and empty streets of cities all over the world there are new friends running around free and waiting to be caught: Pokémon. Finally, after a long wait, the game born from the collaboration between Nintendo and Niantic has landed in Italy, making entire generations relive the dream of playing the fantastic video game again, always enjoyed only in the Game Boy version and now active on all our smartphones. Everything is based on augmented reality. Skeptics who didn't think that it wouldn't be possible to adopt it until Google Glass or similar devices became widespread have therefore had to think again.
The game, which uses the new technology in conjunction with the common Find Your Phone Number smartphone camera, has so far achieved sensational numbers: as MarketingWeek reports , in the USA the application has already reached 21 million daily users, surpassing without too many problems the Candy Crush audience which was around 20 million. According to data from SensorTower, a research institute which also declared that the application generates $1.6m in daily revenue, the average iPhone user spends around 33 minutes and 25 seconds a day on Pokémon Go, more than on Facebook (22 minutes), Snapchat (18 minutes), Twitter (17 minutes and 56 seconds) and Instagram (15 minutes). Ambarish Mitra, CEO of augmented reality developer Blippar said: “We have never seen success like this before.
In the history of the Internet and consumer tech, nothing has had an adoption of more than 100 million global users in six days like the augmented reality of Pokémon Go. The last record was set by Candy Crush – which took a year and three months to reach the same level. Everyone said that augmented reality could not yet become a success due to the lack of the right tools, but Nintendo and Niantic have refuted this theory by simply taking advantage of the 5 billion people who own a mobile device with a camera.” How Pokémon Go Augmented Reality works. The augmented reality of Pokémon Go uses Google Maps to integrate the real world with the fantastic one (in every sense) populated by Pokémon.
